Robyn's 6 tips for your home renovation:
- Natural light is vital to our well-being. Skylights, sky tubes, French doors and picture windows (subject to Council approval) let in light and up lift a room. When natural light is limited, avoid
clutter on windows with heavy drapes and lace! In fact, avoid lace all
together! There are better ways to achieve privacy.
- When decorating, use furnishings and accessories to suit your lifestyle, family arrangement and your budget. Keep it simple, avoid trying to employ too many trends at once. Get help if you are stuck!
- Expert advice at the right time will achieve a better end result. If choosing an architect, look at their previous projects to see whether you are on the same page! Using
a colour consultant/interior decorator early in the renovation is
beneficial to ensure finishes, fittings and colours are coherent. They often have ideas and experience from previous successful projects that you haven’t considered.
- Don’t skimp on the fittings. Quality
fixtures and fittings in the kitchen and bathroom will extend the life
of the renovation. Beware some cheaper silver fittings tarnish quickly!
- Living in a space before renovating often results in a better space at the end of the renovation. Seeing
how the house flows, how the light works during the day and where the
dead spaces are is advantageous to the design and how everything will
work.
- You can never have enough storage! Create storage wherever possible, and the clutter will be kept to a minimum!
